Attention CECT P168 owners. If you are in engineering mode NEVER NEVER NEVER select or turn on"High Speed SIM" option.

YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!!! This is a serious firmware bug that is not well known. I happened to find this by doing a deep search on Google where some owners decided to do this. Whats happens if you do select this option. A countdown begins and the phone will say "shut down in 3 sec 2....1....then shuts down. And it is never possible to reboot the phone ...

OK folks, this is mainly for folks, like me, who want to flash or play around with the firmware on their phones, but don't have a serial port on their laptops. A few weeks back, I purchased a cable from Ipmart (link below) that has usb ends, one standard 2.0 and the other a mini for our phones (China 23).
When we plug the USB cable on the P168, two options appear. We can use it as a Mass Storage or as a WebCam. If we choose that last option the screen of the phone shows a drawing of a webcam but the screen of the PC doesn't change.

It's not a malfunction of the camera, is just that we need a software able to detect the camera.

If we use an instant messenger software like Live messenger it will recognize it at once.

The reason why the CECT webcam may not work for certain people is because of the version of the USB video device driver on their windows operating system. Well even if you update your windows XP with the service pack two 'SP2'. It may not work if you had the original windows xp or windows xp home edition.

If you have the 2005 windows XP edition known as the media edition, you will also have the microsoft usb video driver version 5 which will enable your cect webcam to work instantly Without ...

i think i did something wrong when i readback the phone for a back up on my phone when i tried to flash to a C, but now that i know the C doesn't work i'm trying to go back to my original backup but it won't work. i wonder if i did something wrong, i compared with hex and the original seesm to have less codes in it than the readback, i didn't brick my phone i just tried to flash it into C kinda screwed all the codes up i believe

any ideas on any help?

Save it then as a TXT file and copy it to the 'Ebook' folder on the CECT P168.

We're ready to go!

To read we go to the start menu and then to 'Entertaiment' and enter the 'Extra' icon.

There is an option named 'E-book Reader'.

It should show now the list of books on your 'Ebook folder'. ...

Hi Everyone.

I have a p168c and my son has a p168+. My problem is that I cannot connect to any network outside an urban area, even though the p168+ does not have this problem.

I have gone into Eng Mode and set the bandwith at all the different bandwiths. This still does not make much different. I know the p168+ is a tri band and the p168c is Quid band and this could be the cause of the problem.

I live in Ireland and if anyone can help it would be much appreciated

Best Regards

Here is a tutorial how open up your CECT p168+. Most likely the P168, C, and S can be opened up the same way, since i don't have one of those I can't be 100% sure. First of all, don't just open up the phone for the fun of it, things WILL break off (and it's not even fun). Everything is very fragile, since it's a lot of plastic. Here is what you need.

How to fix the Caller ID Problem
