PostSubject: Changing Graphics. one last horah   Tue Feb 24, 2009 5:58 pm

I got myself a new phone (HTC G1) and I don't use my p168 anymore, but I still enjoy re-doing the graphics in Photoshop. If anyone has any suggestions for graphics, I would be happy to give it a try. (There are some graphics that are completely inaccessible, like the p168C main menu.) I plain on using this thread to include all my custom graphics so I have something to link to from You Tube. I'm going to make two more videos. One will be how to use the format feature to reset the settings and fix high speed sim (should be very short) and the other will show all the custom graphics on the phone and link to this page. In the mean time, I will post up some new stuff. Well not new. More like neglected to finish until now. I said a while ago that I would re-upload my custom dial pad as one easy to install BIN file. Well, here it is.

Dial pad for the p168C

I finally made a version compatible with the p168+ and as a single BIN file.

Dial pad for the p168+

This one is just for the C+ phone. It is different from the others because I don't have access to the graphics for depressed and disabled buttons on this firmware version. I needed to keep it so it would flow into the original buttons. It's just the one graphic, so just right click it and hit save image.

To install the BIN file to your phone, you need to flash it on starting at the hex address of the main dial pad image in your firmware. It's a GIF file on the C and the C+ phones, and a BMP file on the +. Assuming you chose the correct version for your model phone, all the graphics in the BIN file will line up perfectly with your firmware and it will be done in one step.

Here's a cool trick. To delete any of the icons at the top bar of the phone (like the ring notification or pad lock) just flash on this image at it's location. There all BMP files. Pink square for the +, C, and C+. Black square for the original p168. (coming soon)

I will edit this thread and add more stuff. Way back when I still used my + phone, I made a iPhone like battery meter and reception bars for myself and never shared it. I'll polish it up and upload it here too.

Seriously? That really sucks. Replacing the main menu images was one of the main reasons I was even thinking about ordering a flash cable.

I know. Crying or Very sad I was really disappointed too. That was going to be the first thing I was going to change too, but I can only change graphics that the program Multi Extractor can get to. I did experiment with trying to corrupt the black background graphic so the menu icons would appear over the desktop image instead. (like a jail broken iPhone) It never worked right. Too much trial and error to locate the graphic. I was basically poking around randomly around the area between the end of the menu select graphic and the beginning of the menu text graphics. It's definitely possible because I did it by accident to the slide to unlock arrow, which is another graphic I can't access. A invisible slide to unlock arrow is useless though. On a brighter note, I have complete access to the menu background pic (but not the icons) on the C+ version. I wouldn't attempt to make it transparent since I don't own a C+ to experiment on, but it should be a simple matter for you to replace it with another graphic on your own using my videos.

I'm having some issues with image hosting, so you will have to bear with me not having photos.

http://rapidshare.com/files/202624249/Reception_Plus.bin
This is an iPhone style reception bar for the p168+ only. It gives you the choice of two colors so you can make it match your background image. Use sim slot 1 for blue or sim slot 2 for black. This bin file gets flashed on at the location of the sim 1 no service bars graphic with the pink background. (It's a bmp.)

http://rapidshare.com/files/202624719/Battery_C.bin
This is a iPhone style battery meter for the p168C. It starts out blue and changes to green yellow orange and red as the level drops. I could remake it just blue if anyone wants me to. I managed to upload the battery full pic. This bin file is flashed on at the location of the dead battery pic. (It's a bmp.)

http://rapidshare.com/files/202624590/Battery_Plus.bin
Dido of the above for the p168+. This one is a larger battery image than the one above. Also, it must change colors as the battery drops. I can't change it. This bin file is flashed on at the location of the dead battery pic. (It's a bmp.)

If anyone would be able to upload some pics it would be greatly appreciated.
